Pet Peeves!

Pet Peeves !
I admit it.  I have pet peeves about email messages.  Some things bother me. Here's an easy fix to help you communicate better and make you more efficient:
  • Don’t use the word “today” in a message.  If you send a message with “Meeting Today,” the recipients may not necessarily read the message the same day.  Instead, type the exact date in the message.  “Meeting 11/23/2012 or Committee meeting 11/18/2012 at 11:00 AM.

  • Use the same subject text when corresponding about a subject. For example, if you are on a committee or project include the committee or project name in the subject. This way you can use the subject or meeting name even when creating an appointment, then all the items referencing that subject will be easy to find.

  • In the subject line, avoid vague text such as “help,” “meeting” or “update.”  These are too nebulous and unclear.  It is meaningless to have “meeting” as the subject.  Is it the Planning Committee meeting or is it the Operations meeting.  So, instead type, “Executive Meeting on 11/22/2012” in the subject line.

  • Finding/searching features.  If you need to find a easier to search for a message with the same subject.  Search for HIPAA, for example, all the messages with the subject of HIPAA will display.
